This video shows one part of the 6 week postpartum check that Clare Bourne carried out with Binky. They go through  a series of exercises to give the green light for Binky to start some core exercises.

In this video Clare checks Binky doing a double table top position, a knee hover, and full plank and a side plank. At each stage Clare is checking Binky’s tummy to make sure she is ready for these exercises. Please note that not everyone is ready for these at 6 weeks postpartum and before carrying out these exercises Clare had done a full body check, assessing her abdominal muscles and pelvic floor.

Everyone is different, finding what is right for you is key and this is where a physiotherapist can help guide you in the best recovery.

A postnatal check involves assessment of:

  • Your posture
  • Spine and pelvis
  • Abdominal muscles
  • Pelvic floor muscles – lying and standing
  • Checking your doing exercises that you love and want to return to if appropriate
  • Advice on how to return to exercise the right way.

Here Binky has found the exercises okay so getting back to core work out is great and we talked through what sort of exercises to work on and how to build up to impact. Binky will build that in slowly so she can get back to exercising!

Just remember you have your own journey so don’t compare, we all get back to exercise at different rates so don’t see this and start these exercises straight away. This has been done under guidance and assessment.
