My fascination towards children’s behaviour developed when I was just sixteen as I began working in a children’s shoe shop at the weekend! I was so intrigued by how the little ones would respond to having to get new shoes that it fuelled a passion towards understanding more about how a child’s natural character and environment impacted their behaviours.
I started my official childcare career within nurseries, play groups and schools, before moving on to become a private nanny. Caring for children independently, without a lunch break, within a home environment 24 hours and day, often 7 days a week, meant that all of my practical knowledge was then put to the test! Finding myself tired and without any team mates for support meant that I had to really think on my feet and continuously adapt my approaches with each passing phase and milestone.
It was during my time as a Live-in nanny that I began doing extra studies as I really wanted to delve into the how’s and why’s of children’s behaviours. Once I understood why the child in my care behaved the way they did, I was able to work on providing solutions and strategies to help. Parents found my presence incredibly calming and supportive which in-turn, I found to be very rewarding.
Helping parents became somewhat of a life mission for me, which resulted in me being asked to make a short TV series about helping families. Since then I have supported so many parents through the everyday challenges they face such as sleep disturbances, potty training struggles, aggression and much more.
I believe parenting to be the hardest job there is! When you are tired and under pressure, it can be incredibly difficult to develop practical solutions independently…..cue my support. I’m here to offer practical help and advice based on 20 years worth of hands on experience, study and success stories!
I consider parents putting their faith in me to be a privilege and have been lucky enough to develop lasting friendships with families due to the time, care and heartfelt approach I use throughout my role.
