I am a Consultant Paediatrician and fellow of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health.
I have over 16 years of experience in Paediatrics and over 12 years in Paediatric Allergy.
As such I hold two post-graduate certificates:
Previously I led the Paediatric Allergy Services at University Hospitals Coventry & Warwickshire.
Before that, he led the Paediatric Allergy Service at Sherwood Forest Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
My main allergy clinics are in Leamington Spa and Oxford – focusing on the diagnosis and management of Food Allergy, Hayfever, Allergic Rhinitis, Chronic Spontaneous Urticaria and Angioedema, Eczema, Asthma and MCAS.
I am also a member of the Royal College Of Paediatrics and Child Health and the British Society of Allergy and Clinical Immunology, where I am a part of the Core Group of the Standards of Care Committee. This group is in charge of writing the National Guidelines on Allergy, both for children and adults.
Last year I was appointed as Honorary Clinical Lecturer in Allergy at Warwick Medical School.
Recently I was appointed as a Member of the Paediatric Advisory Group for Mast Cell Action.
As most of my private allergy clinics are done at the Nuffield, I was invited to become the National and Regional (Warwickshire) advisor for Children & Young People and Allergy for the Nuffield Hospitals.
My primary focus of interest in Allergy is in immunotherapy and desensitization, mainly to house dust mites and pollens – both sublingual and subcutaneous. José is the co-author of a study titled “Increase in Multiple Nut Reactivity with Increasing Age is Not an Artefact of Incomplete Allergy Testing”, which explored the introduction of nuts into an infant/child’s diet. This research found that not introducing nuts that children are not allergic to will increase their risk of developing allergy to those nuts later in life.
Outside of the clinic, I have a keen interest in researching and teaching paediatric allergies and is currently researching diagnostic tools for non-IgE mediated food allergies.
I also speak fluent French and Portuguese.
