Hi guys, I’m Nathalie Clough and today I’m here to talk to you about pre and postnatal exercises with pilates and exercises that you can do to help support your body.

So a really great question and one that I get asked a lot is can you lie on your back? The reason why we say don’t lie on your back is because there is a possibility of stopping the blood flow between your heart and the babies through the vena cava.

Now, the pressure that is put on that is sort of like a tube being squeezed. And it is when the weight of your baby is pushing down onto that artery. Lying on your back or elevated off the mat is an option if you’re concerned about this, but your body will tell you whether or not it’s comfortable in that position.

A lot of people could sleep on their backs at night and don’t think anything of it. So if you’re one of those people, don’t worry too much about it but absolutely reach out if you have any questions or queries.
