Research suggests that between 1.25 and 3.4 million people in the UK are affected by an eating disorder. Most cases of child eating disorders develop in adolescence but have been diagnosed in children as young as six and adults in their 70s. It can be heart-breaking to watch your child struggling at mealtimes and so difficult to deal with their secrecy and mood swings – it’s common for many parents to feel powerless.

In this workshop, you’ll learn to recognise different types of eating disorders, how to engage your child in sensitive conversations and what to do to support them on the road to recovery.

By sharing Emily’s own experiences with eating disorders that spanned nearly a decade, you’ll gain the insight that you need to understand the common threads and themes that can encourage a poor relationship with food and body image. After this workshop, you will leave feeling empowered to support the ones you love and be able to encourage them to seek help and work through eating challenges together.

We will do this by:

  • Understanding that eating disorders aren’t simply when someone doesn’t eat and identify the different types of eating disorder and their common behaviours.
  • How to approach someone who you may be concerned about and identifying the common reactions that you may face.
  • Looking at the pathways to treatment.
  • Learning how to support someone with an eating disorder or eating challenges – what to do and what not to do.
  • Finding your own support and coping toolbox
