As a caregiver, it’s so easy to slip into the future-projecting scripts: If we don’t fix this NOW, it’s just going to become a BIGGER problem.
Remember, that so much of behavior in early childhood is impulsive and in response to the PRESENT moment with the child’s CURRENT skill level/developmental abilities.
Modeling is a powerful teacher.
Continue to model the behavior you wish to teach.
Interrupt those fear-scripts and replace them with trust, faith, love.
If we meet our children’s stress and overwhelm with more fear, we feed the fear, we feed reactivity; we feed our “worst-case scenarios.”
A child who is greeted with confidence & respect will develop brain connections that promote regulation & skills.
Stay the course. Trust the process.
