Makes about 8 cups (about 3kg) kinetic sand

Ingredients

  • 2 mixing bowls
  • 6 cups (about 2.1 kg) uncolored play sand
  • 1½ cups (192 g) cornstarch
  • Whisk
  • 2 tsp (10 ml) dishwashing liquid
  • ¾ cup (175 ml) water, or as needed
  • Airtight container or resealable plastic bag, for storage

Method

  • In one mixing bowl, combine the play sand and cornstarch and mix thoroughly
  • In a second mixing bowl, combine the dishwashing liquid and water and mix together to make bubbles
  • Slowly add the bubble solution a little bit at a time to the sand mixture. Mix well
  • Continue to mix and add the bubble solution as you mix until you have the desired consistency: the sand mixture should be dry enough not to stick to your hands but wet enough to stay together. You may not have to add all the bubble solution, depending on the consistency of your sand. If the kinetic sand is too dry, add a little more bubble solution and mix. If the kinetic sand is too wet, let it dry out in the air
  • If the kinetic sand dries out as your little one plays, add a little more bubble solution to restore the consistency
  • Store the kinetic sand in an airtight container
