Water Safety Skills Your Baby Learns Without You Realising
As a parent, you want to keep your baby safe at all times, especially when it comes to water. While it's important to teach your child swimming and water safety skills, there are some things that your baby can learn without you even realizing it. Here are some water safety skills your baby may be learning on their own.
Kicking and Splashing
Babies love to kick and splash in the water. Not only is it fun for them, but it's also a way for them to learn how to move in the water. By kicking and splashing, your baby is building strength in their legs and developing coordination. These skills will come in handy when they are learning to swim later on.
Learning to Float
Babies can naturally float on their backs. This is because their bodies are less dense than water, which makes it easier for them to stay afloat. If your baby accidentally falls into the water, they may instinctively float on their back until someone comes to help them. This is another reason why it's important to teach your child to swim and to always supervise them around water.
Reaching for the side
As babies learn to swim and play in the water, they may inadvertently find themselves too far from the side of the pool. Encouraging babies to reach for the side when they are close can help them develop the habit of always looking for a way out of the water if they ever need to.
Understanding water danger
Even very young babies can start to learn about the dangers of water. By making sure they always have proper supervision around water and talking to them about the importance of staying safe, babies can start to develop an understanding of the risks associated with water.
Climbing out of the pool
As babies learn to crawl and walk, they can also learn to climb out of the pool with the help of a responsible adult.
By practising this skill with adult supervision, babies can learn to recognize the safest exit point and develop the strength and coordination needed to climb out of the water on their own.
These are just a few examples of water safety skills that babies can learn without realising it. With proper support, supervision, and encouragement, babies can develop important water safety habits that will serve them well throughout their lives.
