Hello, I’m Angie and I’m at the eco midwife on Instagram and Facebook. I’ve been in NHS practicing midwife for the last 10 years and also a health visitor. And here are some of my top tips to help you prepare in pregnancy for the postnatal period.

So one of the things I get asked as a midwife is how can I reduce the sting of when I have stitches? And that can sometimes be suzerain stitches, particularly when the catheters come out after birth, or it could be peroneal stitches with any stitches it’s worth noting that if you have sudden onset of pain or discomfort in your stitches, again, abdominal or peritoneal, if you have any offensive or smelly, discharge or bleeding, or if you start having signs of infection like hot, cold shivery, nausea, vomiting, or a fever, then you need to call your midwifery team urgently who are available 24/7 postnatally.

But one of the best things that you can do is to keep hydrated in the postnatal period. This will help your recovery, but also it’s like diluting the salt that’s in your urine content. So by keeping yourself really hydrated internally, then actually what will happen is it will dilute your urine and make the stinging far less of a problem postnatally because it will decrease the amount of salt concentration in one area. It will also help with recovery and healing,  in the postnatal period.
