Recent years have shown us all how important it is to listen to your body and take action to improve your health. With the pressures of work and social life, keeping track of your personal health isn’t always easy to do. However, with so much to enjoy in life, protecting your future health is crucial.

Randox Health, the leading UK diagnostics and personalised health company, has a network of nationwide high-street clinics, providing preventative testing directly to the public. Fertility, metabolism, mood and even sleep all encompass female hormones and can often be overlooked as part of a busy lifestyle. With a range of health checks designed for women at any life stage, it has never been easier to put your own health and well-being first.

Anti-Müllerian Hormone: what we do

If you are trying to conceive, you have probably heard of AMH and its importance in fertility. Anti-Müllerian Hormone (AMH) is produced in the ovarian follicles (pouches which contain the eggs). During each menstrual cycle an ovarian follicle develops and releases an egg at ovulation.

At Randox Health testing your AMH level is made simple using a single blood test either at-home or in-clinic on any given day of the female menstrual cycle. Your AMH result indicates if your AMH level is normal for your age.

Here are three reasons why you should consider testing your AMH levels:

Understand if your AMH levels are normal for your age

As women age, the number of follicles in the body decreases and AMH values will fall. Typically, AMH levels peak when a woman reaches her mid-twenties, and decline with age, becoming undetectable post-menopause. A low AMH indicates diminished ovarian reserve and can be an indicator of menopause. Test results will indicate if your AMH level is normal for your age.

You can assess your fertility

Measurement of AMH is useful when assessing fertility and can help determine how well a woman may respond to fertility treatment. The NHS outlines that the number of follicles remaining is reflective of the number of eggs present in the ovaries. Understanding your AMH levels can be a tool used to help plan optimal treatment to give you the best chance of achieving a successful outcome.

Understand why your levels may be irregular

A woman’s AMH levels can measure higher or lower than the average for their age. Higher levels of AMH can indicate that you have more quantities of eggs available and could respond better to fertility treatment but can also be associated with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS). Low AMH levels can indicate low ovarian reserve, and can also be caused by previous illness, medication, or genetics.

At Randox Health you have the option of testing in-clinic or a remote at-home test. Both include a personalised report and an optional GP consultation.
